It took B.A and I about month of our free time to remove 35 years of bottom paint from our Kingfisher
Here is pic after we striped it many times before but getting close finished. We we're using a light duty stripper from home depot that said it was safe for fiberglass use. we scraped of many layers that like sticky slices of goop which we I had gotten on the bottom of my sneakers. I realized that wet stippled paint was on bottom of sneakers when I went into my house to get a need drink of water . That was fun to clean up PS B.A never knew it happened .until now
Once I decide enough was enough on striping the Kingfish down I started wet sanding to create a smooth even surface for the paint to stick too
I sanded it smooth then my lovely assistant B.A started to paint the King
I was nice and provided her with shade to Paint the boat with so she thought.
it really was to keep tree crud from falling into the fresh paint it worked out great
Here it is half painted starting to look pretty wouldn't Philip L Rhodes be proud that someone was restoring a 35 year old boat he designed . the real reason of painting the Kingfisher was to Match the sails which are Purple & Green . we were going paint it green (boat Named the Frog )originally but could find an off the shelve color to match sails . I was not going pay for custom paint colors White matches all colors .
This was the real exciting part Watching Paint dry .just so you know as My Lovely assistant was painting our beloved sailing dinghy I was not just sitting around making wise cracks a snapping pictures . even though I took a lot of pictures and made good wisecracks about the paint job . I also was building my water pump Mailbox stand and painted that too . you will see the finish sail boat and the finished mailbox below .I don't only have the coolest sailboats on the block but Coolest mailbox too. We hope you like our masterpieces also .
and at last the finished mail box also the very cool hand made snoopy mailbox cover was made by our friend John K who also made our rudder for the king fisher check that out here > Building a Rudder for a king
John is a very talented man with wood .
