How much does it cost to participate in Gleaners Pantry?
The only costs are the yearly membership donation/fundraising and the work needed to fulfill your volunteer hours.
How many times a week can I glean?
Currently you can glean two times a week, though this sometimes changes depending on the volume of food that's donated.
How much food/items can I take?
The amount and variety of food/items received by Gleaners Pantry varies from day to day, so the amount and variety you get will also vary. Members are responsible for providing their own shopping containers (boxes, tubs, totes etc). Most of the time, members go home with at least one large box of produce and bread at every glean. Often it's more than that.
Why do I need to work?
We are a group made of members who volunteer to make Gleaners run. We are not a food bank and we have no paid employees. Gleaners Pantry is run solely on volunteer help from its members. Without the help of our members, Gleaners Pantry would not be able to stay open. Work hours are expected of you even if you have limited time and abilities. If you need special accommodating jobs to fulfill your volunteer hours please contact a board member.
“Helping people help themselves”
Working benefits you, other members, and the community. It takes many hours of work for Gleaners Pantry to operate.
How many hours will I need to work?
Members need to work 5 hours bimonthly (an average of two and a half hours each month.)
Even though you only need to work the minimum number of hours, it is greatly appreciated if you work more hours.
Members who work an extra 12 hours that current membership year receive a discount on their next year's membership donation.
What jobs can I do?
Our desire is that you will soon find a job that is fulfilling because it suits your skills, interests, and available time. Ask a lot of questions and you will soon discover the right job for you.
Can I earn hours at home?
Members who have difficulty working at our location due to disabilities or job conflicts can earn hours at home. Assisting board members with paperwork, making phone calls, and making gifts to give our partners are just a few of the jobs members can do from home to earn hours.
Can more than one family member volunteer?
Any household member may volunteer hours. When more than one household member works, both members earn hours toward the annual requirement.
Can I get tax credit for the time I volunteer?
Current IRS Tax code provides for the reimbursement of mileage. Please speak to your own CPA about your tracking and deductions.
Is there an income limitation?
No. Families of all income levels are welcome to join.
