The Cambrian Minor 140km

Following the same route as its big brother ride, The Cambrian Minor is a breath-taking ride to Llanidloes and back from Leominster with stunning views of the Cambrian Mountains.

Starting at 8:00am the route heads northwest on rural country lanes to Kingsland, then onwards on well maintained B-roads through Shobdon (familiar to Elenith riders) and Presteigne.  Shortly after this you’ll pass the site of the Battle of Bryn Glas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Bryn_Glas , where there is a poignant stand of Wellingtonia planted to commemorate it on the hillside.  The route continues westwards to the first climb of the day onto Llanbister common.  Be careful of the slippery cattle grid on the descent!

The route turns left off the main A-road onto rural lanes takes you over more undulating terrain as the scenery gets more spectacular towards the control and turnaround point at Llanidloes.  A free control, with plenty of options to refuel.

After refreshment, the route is a direct retrace to Leominster giving you the chance to enjoy climbing all those steep descents you’ve just experienced!  Will you make it to the top of the Llanbister climb?  There’s nothing like a cattle grid on a 15% ascent to take your momentum away!
