Global modelling of pesticide mixtures in agricultural soil

We used BRTSim to estimate the global soil contamination posed by 92 most used pesticides at 0.5 × 0.5° resolution (about 55 km grid cell size at the equator) along a four-layer vertical soil profile down to below the root zone and over a 48-year time window. The application rates of the 92 pesticides in nine cropping systems were obtained from our PESTCHEMGRIDSv1 database. The bounding box of our dynamic modeling ranged between 180°E-180°W; 90°S-90°N and accounted for 11.85 million km2 of cropland, which was described in BRTSim by about 32,768 grid cells. Below is the animation representing the estimated total pesticide residue in the topsoil and the leaching rate to below the root zone. More details can be found in PUBLICATIONS.
