Global modeling of glyphosate contamination hazard

We used BRTSim to model glyphosate and AMPA dynamics at 0.5 × 0.5° resolution globally (about 55 km grid cell size at the equator) from the top soil to below the root zone over a 50-year time scale. GLP and AMPA dynamics were described using the biogeochemical reaction network developed earlier and was fed with glyphosate application rates obtained from our PESTCHEMGRIDSv1 database. Our dynamic modeling extended in the bounding box ranging over 180°E-180°W; 56°S-84°N, and accounted for 38.6 million km2 of agricultural area described in BRTSim by about 29,000 grid cells. Below are two animations representing soil temperature and soil moisture at different depths within the root zone and the glyphosate and AMPA concentration at the same depths. More details can be found in PUBLICATIONS.
