Plane: carry-on small day pack (and day hikes)

Your valuables plus emergency stuff (in case lost pack)

• enclose main pack in a secure 'net' bag (optional)
• hiking sticks (pair)
• extra pair of comfortable, lightweight shoes
• crocs (or similar, for shower, huts, etc)
• 3 pair hiking socks
• lightweight gaiters (keep crud out of boots)
• 2 long sleeve shirts & 1 short sleeve (fast drying, no wrinkle)
• 1 jacket: fleece or lightweight running/hiking top
• windbreaker with hooded top. (bottoms, too). (rain proof)
• light poncho (cover yourself & pack during storms)
• 2 pair pants (zip off bottoms). doubles as short pants.
• 1 lycra (tights). Adds essential layer.
• 3 underwear (not cotton)
• light stocking cap
• light gloves (warmth, breathable, durable)
• 2 mini-towels (~ 20"x20") of squeeze-dry material
• rubber bands, mini-carabiners
• spork (spoon/fork combo)
• waist pack for day-hiking (optional)
• water bottles or hydration-bag (total 3 liters).
• zip-lock bags (for food, dirty/wet clothes, trail mix, etc.)
• plastic shopping bag (not provided in their stores)
• thin clothesline (nylon cord), mini-clothespins (optional)
• small collapsible umbrella (sturdy to withstand winds)

• wear primary hiking boots
• hat (with large brim and ear/neck protection)
• money/passport-belt (then, to keep dry, place these in a sandwich bag(s) -> passport, plane ticket/info, credit card(s), cash, notes (emergency fraud #’s, itinerary, address-phone#’s)
• drivers license
• electronics: 220-110 universal plug. consider 3-way adapter & short extension cord.
• reading glasses and good sunglasses !!!

• pre-order Euro & Swiss Francs
• camera/smart-phone & earbuds
• ear plugs
• needle/thread, a little duct tape (super-glue, but not on plane)
• hood lamp (or small, light LED light)
• first aid (bandages, tape, heel-slick (opt), neosporum, waterproof matches, etc.), and medicine (prescriptions, vitamins, ibuprofen, etc.)
• toiletries - in sealed bag: toothbrush/paste, deodorant, razor, comb, file, etc.
• Log to record the trip (and pen/pencil, sticky notes)
• paperback(s) to read (then discard)
• travel book tear-outs and travel articles, maps, etc.
• whistle (emergencies)
• GaiaGPS (full App for iPhone or Android). Can download free maps ahead of time. And works in Airplane mode!
• GPS (optional if you don’t have an iPhone with GaiaGPS)
