I am always positive
I do not say no, but always a Yes and a sincere effort after that...
Every person tends to reach his level of inefficiency, but the broader the base the peak of this level is raised higher..!
After we begin a new activity we think and ask ourselves why we did not begin yesterday..!
Information is key to a competitive edge
Even before the internet or cable services, I was exposed to a lots of information, hard facts.
Prospectus of public limited companies, Annual Reports opened me to so much of real-life. My first working life took me to an information search and services company, which opened a tsunami of print information used universities, engineering and research institutions. It was the first time in India, that online information accessing databases on
DIALOG we connected using the telex and later computer-telephone lines-modem. I was exposed to world-wide information authorities in medical, chemical, engineering sciences, patents, standards.
Just as we were hearing of the Japanese - their QC and the great jumps and leaps by Toyota - a chance made me join Japanese Conversation course, first basic and then, advanced. And, suddenly, I was heading to Hyderabad to join a Japanese delegation to do interpretation, and later to a basement cold chamber in a space research center for Japanese technicians.
This pursuit and liking for information, helped me acquire Thai, French, language skills, which I could use in countless situations in the past and probably countless different situations in the future...!
All these were unique dimensions, where information, language, imports, exports -- together built streams, lines and bridges of opportunities
I have worked here in the Exports Department of a Trading Company, a textile printing factory !
The work, exposure to different markets while I traveled, the different customers I met and the personal initiative to know more, and the importance of integrity, earned me a trust with my customers.
And on this base, grew my entire activity covering -

The quoted price is direct, without any mark ups -- be it from a small garments shop or an established factory.
Transfer of Funds
Wires received from customers are promptly paid to Suppliers.
Shipment - Air, Sea
After a QC and Inspection the merchandise goes to the forwarder. I track the shipment and ensure that it is cleared immediately on reaching the destination.
Welcome again !
In the next few pages, I will take you thro some phases of the exports marketing activity.
Hong Kong - Nothing could have been a better training ground to learn about Exports than Hong Kong. The sprit -- do it right, the first time ! -- is so much ingrained in the working system. The export of countless items -- figuratively -- from a pin to an aeroplane, happens in this financial centre, with countless trading houses on account of an efficient and effective system.
Being in the East -- a work day of over 8 hours would never end or get yet busier with Europe waking up....and later the US.
West Africa -- the countries Togo, Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Gabon - were our big and volume customers -- from garments, T/C (texturised cotton), bed-sheets, towels, mosquito coils, batteries, hardware, electronics. The money and values made us overtrade -- we used to ship based on a deposit, and the customers paid the balance. All was fine as long as it happened, and when the receivables mounted -- I made my first trip to Africa -- to collect debts ! French, which I learned in School/College, came of use, and I could very soon effectively communicate -- with the customs or immigration to customers and banks. We established an office in Lome, Togo, and our African customers could pay the outstandings of our Hong Kong office, and collect the documents.
Thailand has the reputation of quality, high-quality and with its labor force, skilled and unskilled, produced excellent results. This extends to all industries -- from basic garments to automobiles, so much so many big brand names have permanent manufacturing facilities here. I worked in and worked with small and big factories, for customers around the world.
All this could happen mostly because of trust, which was built in years of working. Communicate, facts, truth to the customers. Do not misinform or cut corners. ! Use the wire transfers from customers as it is intended -- and return or hold in credit. The testimony to the above is in the activities, in the next few pages.
It was fun working with the exciting African wax fabrics, batiks, beach wear. Speaking languages can immediately build a bridge to a heart ! - this has helped me a lot in widening my network - speak Thai, English, French, Japanese, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Bambara and Oolof (just the basic greetings) handling a variety of items, including garden soil and orchids !!
