Hi Partners,
Just got back from Tahoe Sunday, amazing hiking weather! House looks great. Love the flower box!
Here’s a few maintenance items to be aware of; if there’s any others feel free to reply to all.
Dryer Vent: Please do not put anything behind the bear box against the house. The old coir door mat was accidentally put behind the bear box and it was completely blocking the dryer vent. It was covered in lint. I threw it away and put a sign up on the house to not block it.
Dishwasher arm: Please do not put any baking sheets or large items in the dishwasher that block or touch the spraying arm attached to the top rack because it will make the arm fall off. When we came in June, I found the spraying arm and holding nut underneath the bottom rack: we screwed it back on and didn’t mention it. When I came last week, it was off again. I put it together and it still seems to be working great.
Dishwasher racks: The dishwasher top rack adjusts on either side to move up or down-it is made to be uneven if needed-very helpful for holding wine glasses. However, the left side of the rack had one of the 3 rollers fall out (can’t find it). Gentle reminder that it moves pretty easily with a press of the lever (near the back) to move it up/down and not to force it as those little suckers can break off.
Driveway: There were a ton of ants in the driveway so swept it and put down ant killer on the driveway and around the house. If anyone sees more, the ant killer is in the utility closet on the floor. Thinking we’ll need a new driveway next summer.
Changed the AC filters and ordered 6 more of each-they will arrive when Hanans are there.
Downstairs shower: The Shower door in the downstairs bedroom has always had a tight fit but it seems to be too tight now: it makes a horrible glass-on-glass noise. Please be careful. Favor to ask: If anyone is really handy and visiting soon, can you tighten the hex screws holding the shower door?
Trash: with the new trash policy that went into effect in August, make sure the trash can lids fit on the trash cans inside the bear box. They will not take out trash if the lids are not secured to the can.
Recycling: I put out the recycle yesterday-they only pick up every other week. I met our neighbors across the street, Von, and her daughter. Nice people! They have picked up recycling for us that bears have gotten in to. Friendly reminder it you put stuff in the recycling bin to wash out recycling containers so bears won’t be interested in our stuff. Surprisingly, no pizza boxes allowed in recycling (only clean ones)! Anna says all of Tahoe is dealing with this learning process under the new program.
The suburban tags expired in July. The Hanans are going to get the smog check/renew registration when they go this coming week. I’ll schedule the car for a yearly maintenance check in Oct/Nov when no one is there.
The Suburban had a minor fender-bender during the summer. There was hardly any damage to the Suburban so we are not getting it fixed.
The suburban tires were way over-inflated—they were at 42 cold. The only reason I checked was because I received a tire warning from the car. Friendly reminder that the appropriate tire pressure is listed on the doorframe which is 30 for these tires. I took it to a tire place and they recommended keeping them slightly higher around 33/34.
Pool key card-it’s perched where the keys are hanging-worried we are going to lose it. Favor to ask: Does someone have an extra lanyard with a plastic card holder on it they can bring to put the new pool card in?
We will need a new patio set in the spring. There are 2 chairs that are torn but you can still sit in them if you put a pillow on the seat.
Washing machine: the button to turn on the washing machine is permanently pressed to on. If you just turn the dial, it wakes up the machine and you can use it as normal. I got measurements and I’m researching a new washer/dryer set.
We need some charging stations permanently installed next to the downstairs beds for charging things. I’ll send some to the house and notify the partner that is staying there.
Take care,
Michelle

wanted to let you know I spent extra time cleaning the rodent wall agin yesterday in the loft. Would you like me to coordinate the an exterminator? I would charge a small fee, and I am local. I worked with Michelle Reeves last summer, and the job never was completed for some reason. Perhaps finding a handy man to seal up the ceiling would be another option. Otherwise, this situation just continues, and honestly it’s gross.
Please let me know your thoughts. Maybe I clean it up so often, you all don’t really know it’s an issue. But it would definitely like to address it in the very near future.
Secondly, has there ever been an issue with trash pickup? It has not been taken last week, and the bearbox is full.
Annabelle
Hi Anna-YES please coordinate the rodent issue.
I will call South Tahoe refuse and see what’s going on. They are going to be switching to bear-proof plastic containers instead of bear boxes but that is not happening for a few months.

Hi Sandy- In April 2023 we had the suburban fully serviced/checked out by RDW Automotive. They also installed the battery minder so it won’t go dead when it sits for a couple weeks (the park to travel folks plug it in while it’s in storage). We’ll have them check it again in March/April 2024.
Best regards

Was up there 2 weeks ago;
Car and house are great. Winter tires on car; windshield sticker says oil was last changed in October 2022;
I think it has been done since then; can anyone remember?
There is a small rabbit sheltering in the wood pile; Take care when taking wood inside.

Subject: Key vault
Key vault in the tow hitch on the vehicle: code is 9248:
Take off the plastic cover
Enter the code 9248
Press down on the door release lever
Pull out drawer and take out key
Replace drawer, spin dials to hide code
Put the plastic cover over the front- it only securely locks on the one way (it says on it which side is up or down)
I hope this helps.

The Bundrick’s had a blowout and replaced one tire (they only had 1 in stock) a few weeks ago. In the spring, we need at least 1 new tire and we can have them check the other two as well. Thanks Art

Snow tires are good.
Vehicle drives well, no alignment or brake work recommended.
However, Les Schwab recommended new regular tires when we change back for the summer. The tread looks acceptable to me, but we should probably jointly decide to go another season with existing tires or purchase new tires. Does anyone know how old the regular tires are?

I handled the change back to the regular ties. The snow tires are under the house.

I will be there October 19 and leaving on the 23rd. I can try to get an appointment on that Friday or Saturday to change the tires.
I assume that the snow tires are under the house? The regular tires would then also be placed under the house once they have been removed?
What year is the Suburban? Does it require other servicing? Regards, Art

Re: Car insurance ID cards
Hi, everyone.
Last year, I went to Tahoe late Fall after no one had been there for a few weeks.
There was a snowstorm while I was driving from Reno and I had a lot of difficulty getting there because the winter tires were not on.
I tried to get them put on at Les Schwab but they had no appts for a few weeks.
I got it done by going in very early in the morning and begging.
Suffice it to say that there must be an easier way.
Les Schwab has emailed me asking if I want to make an appointment.
I am not clear when they are usually put on but I can get an appointment [I think] for anyone who is there when they should be put on.
I am perfectly happy to do it but am looking for guidance on the correct date [approximately] to do it.Help please

Hello Partners!
A quick update on Texas Tahoe Chalet.
Trash: PLEASE PULL THE RECYCLE CONTAINER TO THE CURB ON RECYCLING DAYS before 7am Monday (can do Sunday night if needed). We're working through some confusion with the new trash bins with our HOA. Our trash is taken out of our Bear Box and pulled to the curb, but they are NOT pulling out the Recycle or Yard Waste containers. To make it even more confusing, Recycling is only picked up every other Monday. If you are staying on a recycling week, please pull out the Recycle Garbage container to the curb. I'll have Todd pull it out for the next recycling day on March 17th. The South Lake Tahoe recycling schedule is found here: https://southtahoerefuse.com/pick-up-day-map/
For recycling, DO NOT BAG recycling - just dump the contents into the container. No plastic bags are allowed in recycling. Another weird one is no pizza boxes in recycling- they have food on them and go in regular garbage.
Allowed recycling items: Plastic bottles and jugs (# 1, 2, & 5), aluminum cans, steel/tin cans, cardboard (flatten), Mixed paper (newspaper, office, junk mail, etc.), and glass containers.
Friendly reminder to text Annarose Boatman at 530-721-5642 when you are traveling to the chalet with your start/end days. She accepts payment as cash or Zelle.
I'm looking at getting the driveway repaved this summer and also painting. The outside and inside really need a new coat of paint.

Anything metallic, like shiny metallic wrapping paper or tinfoil, is not recyclable. I’m not sure about hard plastic paper. If in doubt, put it in trash.
