About

I am a biogeoschemist and senior marine chemist at the Agri-Food and Bioscience Institute, in Northern Ireland.

My research tests the effects of environmental change upon carbon and nitrogen cycling in marine and freshwater environments.

Research Interests

My research interests range from alpine streams to the deep-sea floor. Common themes in my work are how environmental changes affect carbon and nutrient cycling in marine and aquatic systems. This includes questions about the impacts of biodiversity-loss, climate change, sediment erosion, eutrophication and marine oxygen loss. I use a variety of methods including field-based observations and measurements, field and mesocosm-based experiments, and stable-isotopes as tracers to empirically test how carbon and nitrogen move through aquatic ecosystems.
