2018 was a truly massive year for Hollywood movies, with several astounding record-breakers at the worldwide box office. But which films ultimately reigned supreme? And which have sneakily made bank? Here are the biggest movies of the year.

Top 10 Highest-Grossing Movies of 2018

10. Fantastic Beasts: Crimes Of Grindelwald ($596.2 Million)

The sequel to 2016's "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" lands in the top 10 grossing movies of 2018 after putting a more than $500 million spell on audiences. When we look back at the year of film in 2018, we're most grateful for this movie if only because it gave us a plethora of magical red carpet lewks courtesy of Ezra Miller. There were no fashion crimes with this fantastic beast.

9. Ant-Man And The Wasp ($622.7 Million)

When it was first announced Paul Rudd would be entering the superhero universe (and in his 40s no less) some were scratching their heads (except for us, we always knew Paul Rudd could do literally anything and everything) but 2015's "Ant-Man" was a hit, earning more than $500 million at the worldwide box office. 2018's sequel, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" was even more lucrative, pulling in more than $600 million. Paul Rudd has always been the object of our affection and clearly audiences around the world aren't clueless about him and his talents anymore.

8. Bohemian Rhapsody ($636.6 Million)

While reviews of the Queen biopic were mixed at best, with many critics accusing the film of being too antiseptic, conventional, or cliched to be as dynamic and revolutionary as you'd expect from a film profiling one of the most original bands and legendary frontmen of all time, audiences tuned out the noise. Theatregoers turned out in droves, making "Bohemian Rhapsody" the highest-grossing biopic of all time with box office receipts totalling more than $600 million worldwide. We are the champions, indeed.

7. Deadpool 2 ($734.2 Million)

Everybody's favourite foul-mouthed sarcastic super anti-hero returned to theatres in 2018 and his hilariously offensive fourth wall-breaking shenanigans charmed audiences, critics, and Celine Dion, pulling in more than $730 million worldwide. You can buy a lot of Nickelback albums with that money.

6. Mission Impossible: Fallout ($791.0 Million)

The world wasn't exactly clamouring for a sixth instalment in the "Mission Impossible" franchise in 2018 with a 56-year-old Tom Cruise playing Ethan Hunt jumping out of buildings and partaking in car chase after car chase. But "Mission Impossible: Fallout" surprised everyone and delivered an entertaining, exhilarating, exciting ride with many critics calling it one of the best action movies to hit theatres. Audiences agreed to the tune of nearly $800 million in box office revenue.

5. Venom ($852.9 Million)

"Venom" is an appropriate title for this Tom Hardy movie based on a Marvel superhero because that's precisely what critics were spewing at it. But critics be damned, audiences still flocked to the theatres, putting "Venom" in the top five spot for 2018 with earnings of more than $800 million worldwide. Personally, we're still waiting for the movie version of Tom Hardy's glorious old MySpace page.

4. Incredibles 2 ($1.2 Billion)

When the first instalment of "Incredibles" was released in 2004, it was one of the highest-grossing movies of that year, bringing in more than $600 million at the box office and walking away with the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. So with success like that, it's no surprise the movie would get a sequel. What is surprising is it took 14 years to hit theatres. While "Incredibles 2" was expected to do well, with so long in between the first instalments, there was no telling if it would have the same impact as the first. The movie hit theatres in July and did incredible at the box office, pulling in more than $1.2 billion worldwide.

3. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($1.3 Billion)

Dinosaurs continue to evade extinction at the box office. After the massive, worldwide success of 2015's "Jurassic World" (it earned more than $1.6 billion worldwide) it was no surprise a sequel would follow. While the reviews for "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" weren't exactly raving, with some critics calling the movie "meaningless" and "a stunning disappointment" and a "cash grab" the movie did end up grabbing a lot of cash, pulling in more than $1.3 billion worldwide.

2. Black Panther ($1.3 Billion)

Wakanda forever. Not only did "Black Panther" make history by being the first superhero movie to feature a predominantly black cast, the movie was a critical darling and box office blockbuster. The Marvel movie opened huge, grossing more than $200 million its opening weekend, making it the biggest opening by a black filmmaker. "Black Panther" rounded out 2018 as the highest-grossing movie in North America and the second-highest earner at the world box office, pulling in more than $1 billion.

1. Avengers: Infinity War ($2 Billion)

"Avengers: Infinity War" roared into theatres in the Spring and immediately broke the record for biggest domestic opening weekend so its not a huge surprise that it would go on to be the highest-grossing movie at worldwide box offices in 2018, pulling in more than $2 billion. Clearly audiences still have a healthy appetite for superhero movies.
