An interactive applet and associated web page that demonstrate the properties of a 3:4:5 triangle - the most basic of the Pythagorean triples shows a right triangle that can be resized by dragging any vertex yet maintaining the ratio 3:4:5. This Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. This is a great way for students to visualize one of the Pythagorean triples. Students can either access the site themselves or the teacher model the site on a projector.

This paper makes recommendations for developing mathematics instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs) aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The recommendations can guide teachers, curriculum developers, and teacher educators as they develop their own ways of supporting mathematical reasoning and sense-making for ELLs. As new standards are developed it is important for teachers to understand the Common Core Standards, how to incorporate it into the lessons, and make it accessible to to ELLs.
