PSEL Standard 9 Summary
Standard 9 focuses on defining an effective leader as one who can manage school operations and resources to improve and maintain a positive school community that services the needs of all students. It states that effective leaders seek, acquire and manage fiscal, physical, human and other resources to promote student learning. Leaders must be able to manage funding and resources specifically purposed to help meet the needs of students with disabilities. So not to take on too much, an effective leader should be able to delegate by developing strong working relationships with staff to be able to assign roles and responsibilities. Also, a good leader must build positive relationships with other stakeholders and agencies that provide meaningful sources of support. This may also involve building relationships and alliances with feeder and connecting schools to better manage enrollment and curricular and instructional interpretation, especially students who transition in with IEP’s already in place.
