PSEL Standard 8 Summary
Standard 8 focuses on principals being able to effectively engage families and communities to promote student success. The standard discusses how important it is for the principal to maintain a positive presence in the school community to build trust and alliances. It states that it is important to be able to employ the community’s culture, social, intellectual, and political affiliations that may effect how a student learns. Key terms mentioned in this standard help to provide focus on the responsibility of an effective school leader, for instance terms such as, sustained productive partnerships, but most importantly, creating partnerships with the parents of students with special needs, which involves, being active in developing and reviewing IEPs, share child’s strengths and weaknesses and reaching out to parents who speak a second language. It states that leaders should have two-way communications about the school and the students, especially for student with disabilities.
Artifact #1 Funds of Knowledge Community Walk Project (PBE)
Artifact 1 is an action plan which involved actively going into the community to research the interactions and behaviors of a selected student. Through my observations, according to research, I should be able to document learning habits and other concepts that may help improve student classroom performance.

Artifact 3 is a flyer to promote a day of fun and recognition for the grade level with the most read books. I served as co-facilitator and MC of the festivities.

Artifact 4 is a rubric which will be used by parents and other guests to analyze student project based learning assignment. My role was to assist mentor in creating the rubric and assisting grade level teachers during Expo Night.
