Positions

Research or teaching assistantships/scholarships are available for both undergraduate and graduate students in Dr. Tan’s group at Northern Illinois University (NIU). Dr. Tan’s group research interest include Biomechanics, Microfluidics, Multiphysics modeling, High performance computing. The students will use high performance computing tool to study biophysical phenomena in cells, blood flow, cancer cell detection, micro/nanofluidic problems, from continuum to nanoscale. A few applications are shown in the figure. The students will have access to high performance computers at NIU and Argonne National Lab, and collaborate with other groups in experiments.

The students are expected to have a good education and research background in mechanics and scientific computing. The ideal students would have a solid background in programming in C++ and matlab. Knowing immersed boundary method, parallel computing using MPI, molecular dynamics is a plus but not required.

If you are interested in positions above, please contact Dr. Tan at jifutan'at'niu.edu. Please email your CV along with a cover letter expressing your background and research interests.

If you are an undergraduate at NIU, you can send him email jifutan'at'niu.edu or stop by EB 116 to talk about any research projects and opportunities.
