Sylwia Bialek, Ph.D. - environmental and energy economics

Welcome to my website and thank you for visiting!

I am the Head of Unit for Microeconomics at the German Council of Economic Experts and an affiliated scholar at the Institute for Policy Integrity, New York University. I also teach classes related to environmental economics at Goethe University Frankfurt. Currently I am on secondment at the Directorate General Economics, Supply Side, Labour and Surveillance Division at the European Central Bank.

My work is in the field of applied microeconomics, with focus on environmental and energy economics. I concentrate on issues of market design and on optimal environmental regulation.   

Much of my policy and research work relates to wholesale electricity markets, in particular to resource adequacy.
