Guest Speaker on Accessibility and Disability Justice in Distance Field Education
Join Dr. M. D. Smith for an interactive session on accessible field education in distance social work programs, focused on practical, systems-level strategies field teams can implement immediately. Drawing on more than a decade of experience across multiple field education roles—including field instructor, task supervisor, field liaison, liaison supervisor, field faculty, and assistant professor of the practice—Dr. Smith will explore how to intentionally recruit and partner with agencies that support flexible, hybrid, and inclusive internship experiences; how advising practices can reduce reliance on student disclosure; and how accessibility can be embedded across policies, supervision, and community partnerships without sacrificing rigor or competency development. Designed for field directors, coordinators, and educators, this dialogue-centered session hosted by the Social Work Distance Education Field Consortium will offer actionable ideas, reflective prompts, and collaborative discussion to help programs design placements where all students can thrive.
