President
Lindsey Rinehart is the Field Education Director and a Clinical Instructor at the West Virginia University School of Social Work. She has been with the WVU SSW since 2020 when she was initially hired as the field coordinator for the newly developed online MSW program. She was promoted to Field Education Director in 2022 and currently oversees the field education program for the on-campus BSW program and online and on-campus MSW programs. Lindsey earned her MSW at New York University and her BSW at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. Lindsey has over a decade of experience working for community organizations to meet the needs of underserved populations, primarily focusing on mental health, substance abuse, and homelessness. She has experience in nonprofit management, Assertive Community Treatment, and housing first modalities. Lindsey has a focus on community engagement across disciplines through active partnerships with community stakeholders, board membership, and community task forces. Vice President
Christie is a faculty member in Oregon State University’s newly established Bachelor of Social Work Program. With over 20 years of experience in direct practice, youth prevention, nonprofit leadership, and field education, she brings a grounded and justice-focused approach to teaching. Prior to joining OSU, Christie served as Assistant Professor of the Practice at the University of Denver, where she worked primarily as field faculty and briefly as Acting Director of Field Education. Her teaching emphasizes strengths-based practice, critical thinking, and equitable access to education, with professional interests in inclusive community engagement. Secretary
Margie is the Assistant Director of Field Education at the University at Buffalo School of Social Work. She has worked at UB since 2009, first as a Field Coordinator and then promoted to Assistant Director in 2017. Margie oversees the Online MSW Field Program and continues to assist with the overall MSW Field Program. Prior to working in higher education, Margie worked at a community-based agency on the City of Buffalo for 18 years. She provided individual and family counseling, crisis intervention, anti-poverty programming, and preventive services. Margie was promoted to supervisor at the agency and managed multiple offices and programs. She also worked for 2 years as a Child Welfare Training Specialist and trained child welfare workers across New York State. Margie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Binghamton University and her MSW from the University at Buffalo and has her LCSW-R. She can be contacted at quartley@buffalo.edu.
Treasurer
Jennifer Schermerhorn, is the Director of Graduate Field Education and a clinical assistant professor in the School of Social Work at Salisbury University. Jennifer earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work from Salisbury University and is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). She has worked at Salisbury University since 2007, initially as a part-time adjunct instructor and joined the full-time faculty in 2016 as the Director of Online Field Education. Her practice background includes over ten years of experience in long-term care as a nursing home social worker. Jennifer is currently a Community Educator volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association, delivering education programs to both the local community and virtually. She is also the co-chair of the Mid-Atlantic Field Consortium and chair of the SU SSW Alumni Advisory Committee and serves on numerous committees within the School of Social Work. Technology Chair
Sara Strayer is the Director of Field Education and an Assistant Professor with the online Master of Social Work program at Alliant International University. She has received a PhD in Social Work, Master of Social Work, Bachelor of Social Work, and Bachelor of Arts in Spanish degrees. She is also a Licensed Social Worker and a Certified Child Welfare Supervisor and Certified Child Welfare Direct Service Worker. In addition, she has completed training in advanced and Spanish speaking forensic interviewing from The National Children's Advocacy Center. Sara's research and practice have focused on child welfare, foster care and kinship care, group facilitation, forensic interviewing, populations with Limited English Proficiency, environmental justice, community-based food systems, multi-disciplinary teams, self-care, burnout, trauma, social work education, and Field Education. For more than 15 years, she has taught online and in-person undergraduate and graduate social work courses with a passion for supporting students as they prepare for professional practice.
