No, it does not have to be costly, but it does need to be appropriate.
We recommend comfortable walking boots for all walks. Walking boots provide more ankle support and are more waterproof. Grass can be wet and paths muddy even when it isn't raining.
Clothing needs to be comfortable and it is advisable, if you continue walking, to have a waterproof jacket and over-trousers.
A small rucksack is useful for carrying a packed lunch and drink and for example, socks and waterproof clothing.
In winter, bring hats, gloves and extra layers of clothing and in summer you should carry plenty of water and suncream.
Water - even on a cold day you can get thirsty.
Food - most members bring a packed lunch. We have a 'banana break' (bananas are good for slow release energy) for elevenses. We usually have a pub stop at lunchtime, though it may not always be possible to have a pub lunch (time/availability).
