About Prof. Vishvakarma
Prof. Santosh Kumar Vishvakarma is a distinguished academician, semiconductor technologist, and policy expert with 15+ years of teaching experience, 20+ years of advanced research experience, and 10+ years of academic leadership and administrative experience. He has made significant contributions to the fields of electronics, semiconductors, and emerging technologies, and is widely recognized for his role in strengthening India’s deep-tech and innovation ecosystem.
Prof. Vishvakarma completed his B.Sc. in Electronics from University of Gorakhpur, M.Sc. in Electronics from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, M.Tech. in Microelectronics from Punjab University, and Ph.D. in Microelectronics & VLSI from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Professor Vishvakarma has extensive international academic and research exposure, having worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Norway.
Currently, he serves as Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Indore, where he has been leading the "Next-Generation Semiconductor Chip Design and AI Computing Systems (NSDCS) Lab" since 2010.
His research areas include; Volatile & Non-Volatile Memory Architectures and Circuit Design; Hardware-Software Co-Design for Scalable AI Computing Systems; Memory Centric AI Computing Systems; Cryogenic Memory Circuits for Quantum Computing; RISC-V-based Multicore Processor Architecture and Design; Domain Specific AI Hardware Accelerators; Neuromorphic Computing ; PCIe/CXL, UALink, Ultra Ethernet for Hyper Scale AI Infrastructure.
He has authored 246+ research papers, holds 06 Indian patents, mentored 04 semiconductor startups, secured 18 sponsored research projects, supervised 22 Ph.D. scholars, and is currently guiding 18 additional Ph.D. candidates.
In public policy and governance, Professor Vishvakarma is currently serving as Chief Scientific Advisor at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Good Governance and Policy Analysis (AIGGPA) under the Government of Madhya Pradesh. In this capacity, he is playing a strategic role in advancing state initiatives in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, agritech, and higher education reforms, including frameworks for establishing foreign universities in Madhya Pradesh.
Prof. Vishvakarma has been receipient of prestigious German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Bilateral Exchange Fellowship in 2018. Prof. Vishvakarma is a Fellow of IETE, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), Senior Member of IEEE, member of ACM, Chairman of the VLSI Society of India, MP, and Chair of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, MP. For his outstanding contribution to India’s VLSI and semiconductor ecosystem, he received the prestigious VSI Best Faculty Award 2025 at the 38th VLSID Conference.
