Mr. Chong qualified from The London Hospital Medical College in 1993 and trained in basic surgery at the Hammersmith, Chelsea and Westminster and the Royal Brompton Hospitals. He was Clinical Research Fellow in Vascular Surgery at Imperial College, London, winning the European Society of Vascular Surgery Young Investigator prize in 2000. His research was awarded the Royal Society of Medicine Glaxo Travelling Fellowship to the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston in 2001 and to the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore in 2002. Upon completing his Higher Surgical Training on the South East Thames rotation at Kings College Hospital, London in 2006, he gained further experience in Endovascular Surgery as a Fellow at St. Mary’s Hospital, London in 2007.
Since 2007, Mr. Chong has worked as Consultant Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust where he heads the Regional Vascular Unit as well as lead the multidisciplinary diabetic foot limb salvage clinic at Frimley Park Hospital. He was appointed Chairman of the Surrey Vascular Group Network in 2017 after serving as Secretary between 2012 and 2016. The Surrey Vascular Group Network serves West Surrey, East Berkshire and North Hampshire. Frimley Park Hospital is the regional vascular hub unit serving referring spoke hospitals at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke and the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.

Mr. Chong's research interests include intermittent claudication, diabetic limb salvage, stroke surgery, endovenous laser surgery and the role of human factors training on surgical outcomes. He has published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery, the European Journal of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery, Phlebology and the British Journal of Surgery and given presentations at the Society of Vascular Surgery (USA), the European Society of Vascular Surgery, the Vascular Society of Great Britain & Ireland, Sri Lankan Society for Vascular Surgery, Indovasc, CX Symposium, STAR Symposium, FYA Congress and the Asian Society of Vascular Surgery. He is a journal reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery and the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has served as Principle Investigator for several landmark vascular clinical research studies including IMPROVE, LEAP, EVRA, BASIL-2, BASIL-3 and currently EVOCC and STAR.
Invited faculty member at the Vascular Society Annual Scientific Meeting, the London Aortic Symposium, BSET, the Charing Cross International Vascular Symposium, STAR Symposium, IndoVasc, Sri Lanka Vascular Society and the FYA Congress.
Co-editor and chapter author of the 2nd edition of "Management of Diabetic Foot Complications" a text book distilling the best of UK diabetic foot care published by Springer.

In recognition of his contributions to patient care, service improvements, teaching and research, Mr. Chong holds a level 4 Clinical Excellence Award.
Mr. Chong has talked about Aortic Aneurysm Care on BBC Surrey Radio in March 2011 and has also been quoted regarding Varicose Vein Care by the Jeremy Vine Show on Radio 2 in February 2013.
His interests outside work include playing the piano, wine and travel.
