Seating will be arranged ahead of time to allow the students in modified arrangements denoted for lecture versus group work. A proactive seating rule will be established that will prevent students from sitting next to peers with whom they have a history of disruptive behaviors. Any grouping will be established ahead of time so that students can transition easily into and out of groups (Please refer to Unit Plan header under “Provisions for Student Grouping”). If a daily lesson plan runs under time, the students will be given this time to work on their group presentation project. If students finish the in-class writing assignments they will be allowed to prepare for their group presentation.
After the Introduction of the Unit using the Promethean Board, students will be asked to turn their chairs to form the Clans. This way, there is room at the front for the physically handicapped student to turn her wheelchair, and every other student has a very simple movement to prepare for the groupings. One of those assigned to the seats which turn should be the AD/HD student, so he has his motion break. We will use these two groupings throughout The Hobbit Unit Plan. Students will be asked to return their seats to the original positions during the class Summary, so that the physically handicapped student can get out easily. The Clans are organized accordingly:
