About Dr. Mondal

After his schooling from S.E. Rly Boys’ H.S. School, Adra, Dr. Sukanta Mondal did his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Raghunathpur College, Purulia, University of Burdwan, West Bengal, in 2006. Later he moved to the Department of Chemistry, University of Pune, Maharashtra to pursue his M.Sc. During his Masters study, he received the merit based NCL (National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India) Scholarship for the year 2007-2009, as well as qualified GATE and CSIR-UGC NET Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). In 2009, he joined the research group of Prof. P. K. Chattaraj in the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, as a JRF. Having doctoral degree in 2015 from IIT Kharagpur, he joined the research group of Prof. G. Merino as a Postdoctoral research fellow at CINVESTAV, Merida. He is a recipient of the fellowship (honorary) SNI (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores) Level ‒ I, CONACYT, Mexico, 2016. Accomplishing the postdoctoral research project with Prof. Merino, he returned to India and received the National Postdoctoral Fellowship (NPDF, January 2017) from SERB, Government of India. Through NPDF, he got the opportunity to work at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru with Prof. S. K. Pati. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor (Chemistry) at Assam University, Silchar (A Central University Established by an Act of Parliament). Recently he has received the UGC-BSR Research Start-Up grant of Rs. 10 Lakh from University Grants Commission, Government of India. During Ph.D., Postdoctoral research, and as an Assistant Professor he has published (authored and co-authored) several peer reviewed journals of international repute, viz.: J. Phys. Chem. A, Chem. Phys. Lett., Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., J. Phys. Chem. C, J. Mol. Model, RSC Advances, Organometallics, Theor. Chem. Acc., Chem. Select, Org. Lett., Chem. Commun., Comp. Theo. Chem., New J. Chem., Inorg. Chem., etc. Apart from these, he has co-authored one bulletin, one conference proceeding, and six chapters in books. He is a reviewer of the Springer journal, Journal of Molecular Modeling, and the Elsevier journal, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy. He is an editor (review) of the journal Frontiers in Chemistry (Section: Theoretical and Computational Chemistry). He has presented (research presentations and invited talks) his research work in a couple of national and international conferences in India and abroad. In 2019 he has become a fellow and life member of the Indian Chemical Society.
