Marriage

Thinking about getting married? That's great! We'd love for you to consider getting married at St. Stephen's! As an Episcopal Church, our canons (laws) require that at least one of the people getting married be a baptized Christian. (Not baptized? That's OK, too! We can take care of that if you would like to be affirmed as a beloved child of God and join the body of Christ in Holy Baptism. See our Adult Baptism Workbook for details.)

We believe that marriage is a reflection of the love between God and humankind. We offer marriage to all who want to affirm in public that their love reflects this divine love. As our Book of Common Prayer says, "Therefore marriage is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, deliberately, and in accordance with the purposes for which it was instituted by God." We welcome couples of all ages and backgrounds, including same-sex couples.
