The accompanying photos are not from Washington but rather of the Garlock fault zone in the eastern Avawatz Range in SE California. Top photo annotated by Logan Chinn. I took the bottom photo of a alluvial fan and terrace composed of grus unconformably overlying a 100-meter-wide faults zone.
Although not specifically "research," my colleague Marli Miller [University of Oregon] and I are writing the second edition of Roadside Geology of Washington. Please see her second edition of Roadside Geology of Oregon to capture the flavor of the colorful new editions in this famous series. We have completed all of the roadlogs, which will be keyed to mileposts. Each region—North Cascades, Coast Range—will feature an introduction. We aim to have the published book available for the 2017 annual meeting of the Geological Society of America in October 2017.
