Death Valley, in the center of the image, is floored by a playa. The Black Mountains bound the valley on the east; the Panamint Mountains, on the west side of the image, are flanked by an impressive fan bajada. Click on the image for a larger version.

We placed our seismometers on the debris-flow and alluvial fans and situated them so they are about 8-10 kilometers above the inferred position of the detachment faults, which dip west beneath the valley. Our stations are in red. Yellow stations are University of Nevada Reno or regional network.

Total north-south distance: about 55 km.
