Pastor - Mary Garvey

Introducing, Pastor Mary Garvey

Greetings, members and friends of Stonerstown Church of the Brethren! I am Mary Garvey, and I am very excited to be called to serve as your pastor.

I come to you from Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon, PA. There, over the course of 26 years, I have served as Minister in Training, Lay Preacher, Deacon, Chair of the Christian Education Team, church clerk, member of the Leadership Team, and member of the Worship Team in addition to teaching Sunday School. After being called by Stone Church to serve as a lay preacher, I started to explore how my particular gifts could best serve God and the church. This led to the decision to attend Bethany Theological Seminary in pursuit of my Masters of Divinity.

Currently, I am a licensed minister (pursuing ordination) in the Church of the Brethren with a Master's in Divinity from Bethany Seminary.

On a personal note, I married my husband Jeremy in 1991. We welcomed daughter Emma in 1993 and son Daniel in 1995. Emma is currently a teacher at the DePaul School for the Deaf in Pittsburgh, and Danny is pursuing his MBA while working at Wegman’s in State College. Jeremy is a bus driver for Fullington in State College. Before embarking on my seminary career, I worked for 22 years in health care administration, first at a pediatricians’ office and later at the Juniata College Student Health Center.

I truly believe that we cannot be Christians alone – we require the community of faith, the Body of Christ that is the church, in order to be true and faithful Christians. That is why I am so happy to become a member of this faith community.

I am grateful and humbled that you have chosen to call me to serve your congregation. I look forward to working together with you to realize God’s vision for our church, our community and our world.
