WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE!  Here you can find details of our usual services and events, the special services coming up and information about the Anglican presence in Izmir, past and present.  If you would like to find out more about us, do not hesitate to get in touch.  

REGULAR WORSHIP AT ST JOHN'S CHURCH, ALSANCAK  Our regular Sunday service, the Eucharist, is at 10.00 AM on Sundays. Whether you are a tourist or on business, or a resident of Izmir, you will be most welcome at our service, and for refreshments afterwards in the Church Hall.  Our congregation members come from many different walks of life and parts of the world, but our common language is English, which we use both in our worship and in our other meetings. We use the liturgy of the Church of England. For information about the Church of St Mary Magdalene, Bornova, see separate page. 

OCTOBER, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER 2026 SERVICES AND EVENTS 

Sunday 4 October 10.00 AM.  HARVEST FESTIVAL.  You are warmly invited to join us for our Harvest Festival celebration.  During the Eucharist we give thanks for all God's gifts in creation, focussing on the fruit and vegetables on which we depend, and for the people who nurture the land, and who bring it to our markets and shops.  

Sunday 1 November 10.00 AM.  ALL SAINTS' SUNDAY.  Ginging thanks for the Saints in every age, including our own.  

Sunday 8 November 10.45 AM.  REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY.  Counting the cost of war, praying for peace, and longing for a world made new.  A bugle plays, silence is kept and wreaths are laid.   

Wednesday 11 Nobember 6.00 PM.  ARMISTICE DAY CEREMONY at the memorial, St Mary Magdalene's Anglican Church, Bornova.  

Sunday 29 November 10.00 AM. ADVENT SUNDAY.  We invite you to join us for our solemn Advent Sunday serive, which begins the season of preparation for Christmas.  

Saturday 5 December  10.00 AM - 3.00 PM.  ST JOHN'S CHRISTMAS FAIR (Kermes). Stalls, delicious food, Christmas products and fun for all. Also and opportunity to see the Church beautifully decorated for the Christmas season.  

Saturday 12 Dcember 7.00 PM.  Our beautiful CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE.  We tell the Christmas story through Christmas Carols and music, prayer and readings from the Bible. 

Thursday 24 December 7.00 PM.  All are invited to join our CHRISTMAS EVE EUCHARIST on the night before Christmas. We sing all the traditional carols as we celebrate the beginning of Christmas together.  

Friday 25 December 10.00 AM.  CHRISTMAS DAY EUCHARIST at St John's Church

Friday 25 December 12.30 PM. CHRISTMAS DAY EUCHARIST at St Mary Magdalene's Anglican Church, Bornova.

Sunday 27 December 10.00 AM.  We celebrate the FEAST OF ST JOHN THE EVANGELIST, our Patron Saint.

VIEWING OUR CHURCHES  St John's Church is often open to the public on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons (from 3 to 6), and at times of worship on Sundays.  Please contact us for further information, or to arrange a private visit.  You can find some pictures of our churches on this website, and do 'like' our Facebook page, where you can see many images of our churches and our church life.
