About Booneville

Booneville is the county seat of Owsley County, Kentucky.  Located in the eastern Appalachian region of the state, it is consistently ranked among the poorest areas in the United States. The Appalachia Trip has been traveling to this county for 40 years, working with residents to improve their living conditions through renovation and new construction.

Despite their socioeconomic status, Booneville residents are people of generosity, caring and deep faith. Each year, we are welcomed into the homes of new and longtime friends without hesitation, and each year, we are reminded of that which is truly important - not the things that we have, but the relationships we build and the stories we share.
