Stage Crew at St. Genesius Theater Society
Stage Crew is a critical and fun part of the theater! Stage Crew creates the set and props to help tell the story and ensures that the actors can be seen and heard on stage.
Stage Crew consists of 3 parts: Creative Crew, Run Crew, and Tech Crew.
Creative Crew is responsible for creating the set pieces and props. This team meets weekly during the Saturday rehearsals and sometimes during the weeknight rehearsals. There is no time requirement, it is simply “come when you can”, so if you know you cannot commit to being available for all of Tech Week, this is a great opportunity to still be involved in an important part of the show! Students on Run Crew and Tech Crew are typically also a part of the Creative Crew. Any of our artistic actors who also want to contribute are welcome to do so as time allows.
Run Crew* is responsible for placing items on stage, moving them, and taking them off the stage during the show. This requires paying close attention to details, moving quickly and safely, and working as a team. You will need to commit to being at most rehearsals after set build, as well all of tech week and the performances.
Tech Crew* is responsible for running the light and sound equipment during the show. Tech Crew typically operates the spotlights, the light board, the sound board, and the computer running the music and sound effects. These roles require paying close attention to details and reacting quickly, being able to respond to changing situations, and technical acumen. You will need to commit to being at most rehearsals after set build, as well as all of tech week and the performances.
There are a limited number of roles for Tech Crew and Run Crew. Decisions are usually based on seniority, giving priority to the 6th, 7th and 8th grade for these roles. However, I also want the younger students to learn these roles and be able to step into them seamlessly! Each year, we need to balance the number of interested students with the needs of the show as well as the space constraints (e.g. it simply is not feasible to have 10 run crew members in each wing as we have very limited space). But we try to find roles for all interested students as much as possible!
*NOTE THAT RUN CREW AND TECH CREW HAVE MANDATORY TECH WEEK AND PERFORANCE REQUIREMENTS. SEE THE NOTE ABOUT THE TECH WEEK COMMITMENT FROM MRS.OSTICK ON THE REGISTRATION FORM.
