Biography:

Dr. Stefan Petry is a Lecturer in Finance at the Alliance Manchester Business School. Previously, he was a visiting professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management in Germany, lectured at the University of Melbourne in Australia, and spent 5 months as a visiting scholar at the Wharton School. His primary research interests include empirical corporate finance, corporate governance, market microstructure, and financial textual analysis (NLP). His papers have been published in the Journal of Financial Economics and the Financial Management journal. His research has been presented at prestigious national and international conferences, such as the American Finance Association Annual Meeting, the Financial Management Association Annual Meeting, and National Bureau of Economic Research Summer Institute Corporate Finance Meeting, among others.

Dr. Petry has also contributed to teaching innovation and course development. While at the University of Melbourne, he had been the recipient of two Teaching Innovation and Staff Development grants to explore and improve the interaction and learning experiences in large classes. At the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, Dr. Petry has developed and implemented the module“Foundations of Finance” for the Master of Finance and Master in Management programmes. Also at the Frankfurt School, he has co-developed the Executive MBA programme module “Finance for Growth”. Most recently, at the University of Manchester, he has been developing the 2nd year undergraduate module “Fintech, Blockchain, and Cryptocurrencies.”

For his teaching quality, Dr. Petry has received several awards at various institutions. In 2014, Dr. Petry was awarded the Dean's Certificate of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching at the University of Melbourne. In 2016, he received the second highest teaching rating among all professors at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. In 2017 and2019, Dr. Petry was nominated for best lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester. Dr. Petry has been teaching Fintech, Blockchain,and Cryptocurrencies, Foundations of Finance, Introduction to Corporate Finance and Financial Instruments, Corporate Finance, International Finance, and Mergers & Value Creating Strategies at the undergraduate and graduate levels, Finance for Growth in the Executive MBA programme, and Empirical Methods in Finance at the PhD level.

Dr. Petry received his MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge. During his PhD studies, he was a visiting scholar at the NYU Stern School of Business and the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
