With apologies to TS Elliot; the naming of Scots is a difficult matter, not just one of your holiday games... Scotland was invaded or influenced by just about everyone in Europe at the time of our play. The Romans once occupied the lowlands up to Hadrian's Wall. The norse settled in the north and raided up and down the coastlines. It is said that the MacLeods and most of the northern clans all have norse ancestry. The 'Auld Alliance' with France brought the gallic sons to our shores as well. Of course, the English periodically invaded as well and babies were borne to all of these occupiers.
This gives Scotland something of a potpourri of names and quite the hodgepodge of languages grafted onto the native Gaelic they brought with them from Ireland. It would be
