Probability, and escape velocity

DecisionPoint20131205b

Open the spreadsheet at the bottom of the screen and experiment with different settings for the incremental probability distribution on velocity, and the escape bias.  The initial stationary height is one, with slightly less than a 50% escape path (see Sophisticated gambler's ruin and survival chances blog piece for a specific alternate to this technique).

On the right of the simulation you will see the output of the portion of outcomes that were simulated to implode at zero (so not orbitally escaping), and we also show the trial time for the last simulated implosion.  The color legend in the illustration is simply to identify the simulation number, and it can be ignored.  When finished, feel free to return to the blog.

If a spreadsheet is not visible on your screen, then you can download and open the underlying Excel at the bottom.
