The TRB Committee on Statewide Multimodal Transportation Planning (ADA10) is now accepting abstracts for poster presentation in the “Fresh Ideas” session at the TRB 2020 Annual Meeting.
Looking back, the 2010s have been a period of rapid change and shifting demographics of transportation users (i.e., age, household type, race and ethnicity, income, identity, etc.). Looking beyond 2020, what will the transportation system need to be like in 5, 10, 20, or more years in order to meet the needs of diverse users? How are transportation agencies and service providers anticipating and responding to demographic trends locally, regionally, and nationally? We are particularly interested in tools, methods, or approaches that can scale to statewide and regional planning while recognizing significant differences between or within local population needs.
Topics could include planning related to (but not limited to):
Fresh Ideas can be new/emerging approaches or local best practices that have not been widely shared with others. Thinking outside-the-box is encouraged, along with practical considerations for how the idea is or can be implemented.

Review Process
All abstracts will be reviewed by a group of Statewide Multimodal Transportation Planning Committee members and friends. Following review of all abstracts, the committee will notify primary authors of their selection status by late September/early October. Applicants whose abstracts are accepted for poster presentation must provide a draft mock-up of the poster for general comment by no later than December 1, 2019, although a final submittal is not necessary until the actual date of the poster session. All posters should be uploaded to MyTRB to be shared with Annual Meeting attendees. Guidelines for preparing the poster will be provided later. The top entries will be showcased in a poster session at the TRB 99th Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. (January 12-16, 2020) and may be shared on the committee website. The entries judged to be most innovative and implementable will also be featured at the Statewide Multimodal Transportation Planning Committee meeting during the conference.
