North Carolina
There are a lot of discrete collections in North Carolina when it comes to online archives, so we have a lot of links here, but only brief descriptions to go along with them.
The starting point, of course, is the list of online materials from the State Archives of North Carolina. The list includes:
- Black Mountain College
- Carolina Christmas
- Civil War
- Civil War Resources (Part of the North Carolina Digital Collections)
- North Carolina Civil War 150 Blog
- Democracy and the Media
- Educational Resources
- GeoMAPP: Geospatial Multistate Archive and Preservation Partnership
- News and Press Releases
- North Carolina Digital Collections
- North Carolina Family Records Online
- North Carolina Maps
- North Carolina Newspapers Digitization Project
- North Carolina State Government Web Site Archives
- Photo Gallery
- Pioneers in Aviation
- Postal History
- Preservation of Electronic Mail Collaboration Initiative
- Social Media
- Treasures of the North Carolina State Archive
- Views from Variety Vacationland: Historic North Carolina Travel and Tourism Photos
- Works Projects in North Carolina: 1933-1941
- World War I
There's a good deal of overlap in the list. Carolina Christmas, for instance, is part of the larger North Carolina Digital Collections. Poke around a bit to see what's what, and check out the clip from the Louis Armstrong recording from his 1954 gig at the University of North Carolina.
The family records page includes marriage and death notices, cemetery listings, as well as an unusual collection of family Bible records.
You can search the complete NC Archives catalog, though there's no easy way I can see to limit your search to online-only materials.
UNC houses numerous photograph archives, with a mix of online and offline content. Check out the Digital North Carolina Photographic Archives Collection, one of several collections in this list of NC Photo Archives.
Lastly, the NC Echo offers easy search access to multiple digital archives. In addition to those mentioned above, it also has content from what looks to be several hundred museums, libraries, schools, history groups and other resources across the state.
