Blackboard Ultra’s Automatic Zeros feature helps you easily maintain an accurate and up-to-date Gradebook by automatically assigning zeros to late or missing assignments.
Why use it? It saves time by reducing manual grade entry and gives students a clear picture of their real-time progress. You can still manually adjust individual grades at any time to align with your grading policies. Note that automatic zeros only apply to assignments with a due date and a submission option—manual grade columns are excluded from this feature.
Automatic Zeros in the Ultra Gradebook are turned ON by default. However, should you wish to turn them on or off, follow these directions:
1. Navigate to your Blackboard Ultra course.
2. Open your Gradebook.
3. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Gradebook to open Gradebook Settings.
4. Once in your Gradebook Settings, scroll down to Automatic Zeros and check the box.
Here is a video demonstration and explanation showing the automatic zero function in Blackboard Ultra.
