What is the SSHS Department of Theatre?
A production oriented theatre arts program that has as its goal producing the highest quality theatre possible at the high school level. The program strives to work as close as possible to a professional theatre company with a variety of educational and performance options available for students at SSHS. The program begins with the Introduction to Theatre, a class that serves as basic training for all theatre skills. Then students can pursue either a performance or technical course work in either in the Acting Company Class or as a member of the SSHS Technical Theatre Team. The program usually produces three shows a year, from a variety of play types and musicals.
What is the SSHS Thespian Society?
A “Thespian” is another term for “actor”. The International Thespian Society is a worldwide organization that supports and encourages educational theatre around the globe. SSHS is proud to host a full Thespian Troupe that is involved on the local, state and national level. Thespian Soceity is more than a “drama club”- the troupe members serve as the support group for the theatre program and the group of students that keep the program moving. The troupe attends several local productions throughout the year, as well as the Georgia State Thespian Conference and has planned trips to both New York City and the International Thespian Conference. But it is not entirely about theatre, as the Thespian Soceity offers several other social events throughout the school year that show support not only for our theatre program, but or school and community, or are just for fun.
To join SSHS Thespians you must meet one of the following requirements:
1. Be a current and active student in a SSHS Advanced Theatre Class
2. Be a student who has shown exceptional interest or work in the theatre program and has received an invitation from the troupe sponsor.
