UPDATED: 01.27.2021
The SPUTNIK organizers have decided to restart weekly pick-ups to coincide with North Carolina's Phase-2 easing of COVID-19 restrictions. Please be aware that there are still considerable virus risks when playing sports like ultimate, at this time (Wake County Virus Tracker). We are only providing a venue where like-minded individuals can play and track attendance, while following agreed upon guidelines to mitigate risk.
Coming to SPUTNIK is a personal decision for you to make. Your organizers are not responsible for your adult decisions. It is up to you to decide if the benefit of playing outweighs the risks of potentially getting sick from another player and/or getting someone you care about infected at home or work.
If you are interested in playing, this is how we will roll until Phase-3 has started:
Health: If you don’t feel well or have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14-days, please stay home. If you can get a COVID-19 test, get the green-light and come out sooner, awesome!
Know the risk: Are you and ALL the people you may have come in contact with at home, work, etc willing and capable of isolating for two weeks after getting the news? If not,
RSVP w/ Meetup: It is going to be important that we know who was playing and when. This is how we are tracking. If someone gets sick, we’ll use the RSVP list on Meetup to let everyone know they may have been exposed at a pick-up. Please RSVP for every event you attend.
Get the App: If you are going to play, install the state's COVID tracking app on your cell phone, turn on Bluetooth and bring your phone with you and leave it on the bench/sidelines.
Play a Soft Mark: Although you may want to play tight-D, let’s not. Please maintain a 6’ mark at all times. Consider playing ZONE at all times if it's easier
Pair-up: Mutually decide with another player that you will only guard each other the entire pick-up duration. It will limit overall contact
Consider gloves: Gloves are an option if you can diligently wash and/or sanitize when the game is over. Gloves also provide a reminder to not touch your face. If you will not be cleaning your gloves often, consider going without. It may be equally effective to instead get into the habit of not touching your face and sanitizing bare hands often before, during and after play. Glove idea - Layout: https://amzn.to/3bSYJ6E
Consider a mask: If you can find a mask that you feel comfortable playing with, you may want to consider it. It is going to be hot so think about how this could be a factor (e.g. Heatstroke concerns).
Hand Sanitizer: Bring your own supply of Hand Sanitizer to every pick-up. Use it regularly if you aren’t playing with gloves and/or are on the sidelines or are coming into or leaving the game. Concentrate on not touching your face.
Sidelines: Even on the sidelines, please maintain social distance (6’).
If you disagree with this restart, we get it. If you don't feel comfortable, please stay home. None of us will think any less of you and we will welcome you like always, when you feel the time is right to return.
Ciao,
~ Ian
