School Immunization Requirements
School Immunization Law (20-A MRSA §§6352-6358)
5 doses of any DPT containing vaccine or DT (Pediatric). If the fourth dose was administered on or after the fourth birthday, then only four doses are required.
1 dose of Tdap vaccine is required for children entering 7th grade.
2 doses of Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine with the first dose administered > 12 months of age.
4 doses of inactivated polio vaccine. The final dose in the IPV series should have been administered after the 4th birthday. If the third dose is given on or after the fourth birthday, then only three doses are required.
2 doses of varicella vaccine or reliable history of disease.
1 dose of MCV4 is required for all students entering 7th grade.
2 doses of MCV4 are required for students entering 12th grade, If the first dose of MCV4 was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required. If a student entering 12th grade is 15 years of age or younger, only one dose is required.
To comply with the Maine State Immunization Law your child must have one of the following in place to attend school:
A copy of child’s complete immunization records
A confirmed appointment to receive the required immunizations within the next 90 days of school registration
Evidence of immunity to specific diseases or reliable history of disease documented by a Maine physician or other primary care provider
Medical exemption in accordance with 20-A MRS § 6355(2). Philosophical or religious exemptions are only allowable for students with an IEP and exemption in place prior to September 1, 2021
Note: In the event of an outbreak of any disease for which your child’s immunizations are not complete, he/she will be excluded from school and school activities. The exclusion will be in effect until the Maine Center for Disease Control determines that it is safe for return to school.
