Our Favorite Hints for Getting the Most From Your iPad
Screen Shot: If you have a student trace a letter perfectly, do great work in an app they are working on or need to share a visual from the ipad a great way to do so is to take a Screen Shot.
To take a screenshot you need to briefly press both the home and power button at the same time - the screen should then appear to flash and a picture of it saved to the Camera Roll album
Split the on-screen keyboard: If you have a student who uses their thumbs to type- Split the on-screen keyboard! When you do this it splits neatly in half, with one half near the bottom left of the screen and the other half near the bottom right. This makes it easy to thumb type when you’ve got the iPad in landscape mode. Here’s how to do it:
From within any app that makes use of the keyboard, tap in a text area to bring up the keyboard.
Next just place a finger from each hand on the keyboard and tap and pull your fingers outwards. The keyboard will split as soon as you start moving both fingers outwards.
To put it back together, just make the opposite motion (pushing your fingers inwards). You can also tap and hold on the keyboard button at the bottom right of the keyboard to bring up a popup where you can choose to dock/undock and split/merge the keyboard.
iPod Control (Fast): If you are playing music via the iPod app, double press the home button even while using different applications like Safari, and the iPod controls will pop up for you to use.
Quick Mute: Ever wanted to quickly mute your iPad? Just press and hold the volume button down and it will mute very quickly without having to press it repeatedly.
Two More Dock Icons: The dock at the bottom of the screen comes with four icons by default. Did you know you can add two more? You can have up to six! To add two more, just hold your finger down on any of the apps until they are shaking. Then drag the one you want down to the dock, press the home button and that’s it.
Pause Downloads: If you need to pause a download because your battery is running low or it is slowing your Internet down, just tap the app while it is downloading and it will pause automatically. Tap again to resume.
Add A Custom Wallpaper/Background: Adding your own background is a great way to personalize your device and it’s really easy to do. Find the photo you want in your Photo app and then you can tap the little arrow up in the top left of the screen and choose Use As Wallpaper.
Shake To Undo or Redo: make a mistake when typing? just shake the iPad up and down and an option will pop up to Undo Typing or Redo Typing. If you don’t want to shake it, then there is also an undo button on the .?123 keyboard and a redo button on the #+= keyboard.
Problem Solving:
Restarting: Sometimes it’s necessary to reboot the iPad if it is having problems that aren’t resolving. In order to do this, just press and hold the home button and the sleep/wake button together for about 10 seconds. Ignore the slide to power off message and your iPad shuts down. Now turn it on as you normally do and it should work fine.
Forcing A Frozen App To Quit: Sometimes Apps can freeze and stop responding. To deal with that, press and hold the Steep/Wake button until the slide to power off message appears. Let go of the button and then press the Home button for around six seconds. This forces the current app to quick and allows you to get back to work
