Purr and Yowl: An Anthology of Poetry About Cats, published in 2023 by World Enough Writers, features work by 101 poets about cats in all their diverse glory. If you love poetry and cats, read Purr and Yowl, edited by David D. Horowitz.


Tonight’s reading features nine contributing poets: Kristy Gledhill, Sharon Hashimoto, Michael Heavener, David D. Horowitz, Priscilla Long, Michael Magee, Carl Palmer, Bethany Reid, and Michael Spence.

Kristy Gledhill’s poems have appeared in various journals, including Terrain, Creative Colloquy, Dunes Review, and Sweet Lit.

 

Sharon Hashimoto’s second collection, More American, won the 2021 Off the Grid Poetry Prize and a 2022 Washington State Book Award.

 

Michael Heavener is treasurer of the Redmond Association of Spokenword. His poems have been published in regional anthologies and displayed as framed art.

 

David D. Horowitz manages Rose Alley Press. He edited Purr and Yowl for World Enough Writers.

 

Priscilla Long’s books of poems are Holy Magic (MoonPath Press) and Crossing Over: Poems (University of New Mexico Press).

 

Michael Magee has read at Shakespeare & Co., Paris, and with the Jack Straw Writing Program. He has written for radio drama, dance, and theater.

 

Carl “Papa” Palmer is retired from the military and the Federal Aviation Administration, enjoying life being a Franciscan Hospice volunteer.

 

Bethany Reid’s collection, Sparrow, won the 2012 Gell Poetry Prize, and her latest collection, The Pear Tree, won MoonPath Press’s 2023 Sally Albiso Award.

 

Michael Spence has had numerous poetry collections published, including his latest, Umbilical (St. Augustine’s Press, 2016), which won the New Criterion Prize.
