Lets se if I can remember some details of the history of radio
frequency sources for Scanner Land
1. FCC records (1930s to present) - I can remember visiting FCC offices in Wash DC, Boston MA (at the Custom House), and Quincy MA at Batterymarch Park to use FCC microfiche - Quincy had a little microfiche reader in their reception area - Wash DC FCC HQ had a microfiche reader up in some room on maybe the 4th or 5th floor - must have been an engineering office - I used to go in there when working as a bike messenger in DC
2. 1970s - CRB research from Commack NY ? - statewide lists sorted by community - mostly public safety radio freqs
2A. Oct 2014 - I recently found some of this info online at AmericanRadioHistory.com in the Science and Electronic Magazine (FL 1070 & Ohio 1971) - and in Radio Experimenter Magazine (NYC area 1969) - look elsewhere on this website for the items
3. Police Call books from Gene Hughes via Radio Shack stores - started around 1970 perhaps - possibly started as a Southern California Freq Guide in 1964 ish
4. FCC microfiche and Fed freqs microfiche from Bob Grove - possibly also available from the NTIA
5. ? books from Norm Schrein / Mr Scanner ?
6. Fed Freq Directory book from Grove ?
6 A - RCMA magazine
6 B - Betty Bearcat Scanner Book - radio freqs from across the USA (per GL)
7. 1985 ish - freq guides from Scanner Master which spawned some local big fat scanner freq books - misc other booklets from various publishers around the USA - (I bought a little yellow booklet for the Chicago area in 1976 or 1977 - I have it around somewhere - I should scan it in)
7. Trunked freqs from Wayne ?B - available via Internet ? - 1995 maybe
7 A - FCC website
7 B. - FIDO net and local dial up electronic bulletin boards - maybe 1980s
7 C - Bill Cheek (from San Diego California) had a BBS and a newsletter
8. Strong Signals website
9. " Radio Reference " website (with forums, database, Wiki, and live scanner audio feeds) (based on Wayne B ? or Stong Signals info initially ?) - plus multiple local scanner websites - 2011
