1996 - Misa graduates from Cal Arts and with the help of a patron who gave her a monthly stipend (thank you Frank K. Kelly) she afforded to work part time and focused all of her energies on founding the company. Looking at options she quickly came to the conclusion that given the vision the company would need to establish its own non-profit. Stephen gave it a name, the Future Traditions Foundation, and Misa went out and bought a NOLO "how to start a CA non-profit" book and went to work. In collaboration with Sarah Wingren, Stephen, and a lot of input from the arts community at large we went through the arduous and lengthy process of building our 501 (c) 3 from the ground up. Misa enrolled in a local course, Women's Economic Ventures, which augmented the process. Misa spends a year working as a guest artist for Santa Barbara Dance Theater working in the office managing the company, working in the studio as a dancer, choreographic assistant, and installation artist. Simultaneously she begins to carve out some new work working solo in the studio at U.C.S.B. and then with friends: Danah Bella, Mindy Nelson, Michelle Knudsen & Shari Brookler.
