Criteria/Constraints:

1. Must fit inside a cube of volume 1m3 (1m width × 1m height × 1m depth)

2. Must use more than six separate steps

3. Must move an aluminum can at least half a meter in any direction.

4. Safety is a priority:

   1. No flame larger than a candle can be used, knives are forbidden

   2. Only a battery can be used to supply electricity

   3. No explosions, pressurized gas canisters or live animals

5. The starting step cannot require much precision or a large force applied by a human

6. A change in step is defined by a change in the type of energy

To design and build a machine that uses more than six separate steps to move an empty aluminum can at least half a meter in any direction.
