This course content is stored in a Google Site, a free and convenient container for creating online pages and integrated links to other Google applications ( Google Docs, Google Calendar, YouTube, Picasa, etc). In this unit, you'll be creating your own site as a portfolio regarding your unique interests in social media, social good, social justice.
Get started creating a scholarly, social identity and stand in the public space. It will be great skill-building for materials you'll need to know how to create in the future. Below are some Google links to get you started.
Reminder: you have choice on how to present yourself in the public space. Lawrence Lessig is only partially correct that, on the net, "Privacy is dead. Get over it."
Privacy is up to you. What Lessig meant is be aware of where and how you post and present yourself. Take control of your increasingly public presence in the digital space. For your Google Site, you can choose to create it with your own personal Google account (xxx@gmail.com account) OR use your UW NetID Google account.
Login via your personal Google account, and own and open your space or
Login via My.UW.edu and set up/use the options that allow student use and viewer control to only those with UW accounts. UP TO YOU.
Either way, whether you're an internet participant or digital resister/privacy addict (or somewhere in between), you will choose how much and who will see your portfolio at Sites. The only requirement for students in our UWT course is that you make the Site accessible to class mates and your instructor. Here's how to get started with Sites:
Create your public presence. Take your stand in the digital space.
