Moonshiner and Six Gap

Moonshiner and Six Gap

Six Gap is in north Georgia and is an exciting and scenic figure 8 loop with twisting and winding roads. The entire figure 8 loop is 77 miles long. The south loop is 35 miles and the north loop is 38 miles. Each of the 6 segments includes crossing through a mountain "gap" or low pass, hence the name "Six Gap". Four of these gaps are points where the Appalachian Trail, which stretches from Maine to Georgia, crosses the roadway, so you can understand how the mountain terrain makes for some good motorcycle riding.

Unfortunately it is also a bit of a haul to get to Six Gap from Cherokee and we would be riding a few segments of road we may travel on during other excursions. Although that isn't bad considering some of these segments are great rides and deserve to be ridden again.

Two segments of this ride include portions ridden on during the Moonshiner 28 ride and the Land of the Waterfalls Loop ride. The rest of the ride may be virgin exploration for many of us and the area promises some great twisties on the way to Six Gap and the ride back to Cherokee.
