Crayon Cakes
You will need:
Crayons
Muffin tin
Cooking spray
Precious time
To make the crayon cakes I use all the little broken crayons that my students do not use any more or donated crayons.
To start, the crayons need to have the paper peeled off of them. Most of the crayons I get from my classroom are already peeled, but when I need to peel a lot of crayons I use an exatco knife and go to town!
Once the crayons are peeled they need to be broken down into smaller pieces so that they will fit into a muffin tin.
I generally just snap them in thirds.
You may choose to separate all your colors into cups for more control when making your crayons. I do this so that the students that are seeking a specific colors can easily use it.
I also make several random multicolored cakes for fun time.
I chose a couple muffin tins that I do not plan on baking with again to make my crayons cakes in.
Instead of using the cupcake liners and having to peel them off the cakes in the end, I just give the pan a quick spay with cooking spray.
Now set you over to 325 F and fill your muffin cups up to the top with the crayons of your choice and bake crayons for approximately 15 minutes. I can fit two trays in at the same time, but I am sure to keep the trays level.
Check them to make sure all the crayons have melted.
Carefully remove from oven and allow to completely cool and on a safe, flat surface.
When they are completely cooled, give the pan a little smack upside down on your table (lay out some newspaper) and your cakes will pop out.
Enjoy!
