The Center for Stress, Resilience, and Personal Growth (CSRPG)
The Center for Stress, Resilience, and Personal Growth (CSRPG) supports all Mount Sinai faculty, staff, trainees, and students. We provide evidence-based resilience training workshops and confidential behavioral health care. Our Center’s expertise in trauma and resilience guides us in developing evidence-based interventions to help our employees, by giving them tools to manage ongoing stressors in their lives.
Our services:
Confidential, individual mental health services including psychotherapy and medication management
Most faculty, staff and trainees have no out of pocket costs for 14 visits, and after that would be responsible for copays, if any.
Workshops integrated into residency and fellowship programs
Factors we have found relate to resilience:
Realistic optimism
Facing fears and active coping
Social supports and resiliency role models
Self-care
Meaning and purpose
Quick tips: here are some examples in which you can build your own resilience plan:
Realistic optimism: start a gratitude journal and write 3 things down you're grateful for
Facing fears: Pick one thing that you are afraid of and make a plan to face the fear. Use paced breathing in daily practice to promote acceptance and address racing thoughts.
· Box breathing (takes 16 seconds!): Breath in for a full 4 seconds, hold the breath for 4 seconds, breath out for 4, and then hold for 4.
Social supports: identify 3 people in your life that you can turn to during difficult times. Invest 20 minutes a week in a close relationship that is important to you – you have time for that!
Self-care: Make a routine for winding down that you do every night. Use your bed for sleeping (or sex) only – no phones, eating, TV, or worrying while there! Find some other place to do those things.
Meaning and purpose: Take a moment to write down how you have grown from challenging situations, particularly ones that were upsetting. Connect to something greater than yourself, through nature, music, spiritual practice.
These suggestions and more are outlined in our resilience-focused app, Wellness hub, which can be found through this link, or by signing up in Sinai Central under the Employee Self Service page.
