In 2015 the public association " SlonimKanalОginsky " was established in the town of Slonim, Grodno region, the former Baranavichy region, the former Bialystok region. The main goal of the organization is the revival of the historical and cultural heritage of Michal Kasimir Oginsky (1728-1800) - Hetman the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, philanthropist, composer, theatrical, road and waterway builder in Rzech Pospolita in the 18th century.
Mikhail Kazimir Oginsky became the headman of Slonim in October 18, 1761.
Famous in Europe, the Court Chapel / Orchestra / (1765-1793) and the Opera / Theater / (1770-1791), musical (1770-1780) and ballet schools (1777-1792), the Opera House - Opera House 1777-1788, destroyed after 1804), the printing house (1777-1782), several manufactories founded by him, successfully operated at that time.
The public association " SlonimKanalОginsky " considers Mikhail Kazimir Oginsky’s merits as an invaluable contribution to the development of Rzecz Pospolita, Belarus, Europe and the European Union. His dream to connect the Black and Baltic seas basins by connecting the rivers Pripyat and Yaselda through the channel with the Shchara and Neman River came true at the expense of his personal means and from funds of the former sub-chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Sapega’s widow.
After the channel construction, named after Oginsky, the Seim of Rzecz Pospolita promised to install a monument to the great hetman either in Vilnius or in Slonim . The promise was not fulfilled on the reason of the third partition of Rzecz Pospolita.
In the town of Slonim, Mikhail Kazimir Oginsky created the "Muses Manor ". Both the Radziwill Theater in Nesvizh and the "Muses Manor" in Slonim were the main centers of theatrical life in Europe.
Mikhail Kazimir Oginsky played a major role in the development of musical achievements of his nephew Michal Cleophas Oginsky, the future composer of Rzecz Pospolita. The ideas of a true and selfless patriot of his homeland inspired him to such glorious deeds.
The Palace of Michal Kleofas Oginsky in the town of Smorgon has been restored, works on the improvement of the park and the surrounding area are currently underway.
The palace of Michal Kasimir Oginsky and his theater in the town of Slonim were destroyed during wars and natural disasters. Only the castleplace is preserved.
At present the large channel of Oginsky (from the Yaselda to the Shchara), which is 54 kilometers long, does not work. Its floodgates have been destroyed during wars. Its banks are overgrown with wild vegetation.
The Small Canal of Oginsky, which is 1km long in the center of Slonim, became shallow. Its banks are collapsing. The old waterflow of the Shchara river in the center of the city was not cleaned, turned into a swamp. The Small Canal of Oginsky is an invaluable historical and cultural heritage that must be saved, preserved, landscaped. It should be used for popularization of healthy lifestyle and sport, for showing to the numerous tourists visiting the town of Slonim and Zhirovichi St. Uspenski cloister.
The purpose of the public association "SlonimKanaloginsky" is to raise funds for:
- restoration of the Small canal and the old waterflow of the Shchara River in the town of Slonim;
- improvement of the adjacent territory;
- creation of area for physical culture and recreation.
In the future, the restoration of the Large Oginsky Channel, the creation of mocks-up of both the palace and the Oginsky Theater at castleplace, as well as the establishment of a monument to Mikhail Kazimir Oginsky are supposed.
A part of the sponsorship funds as voluntary donations from citizens, organizations, enterprises of Slonim are already directed to the works of the first stage - cleaning, improvement of the left bank of the Small Oginsky canal (from the railway to the automobile bridges across the Shchara River).
We, members of the public association SlonimKanalOginsky, are waiting for the response, sponsorship from the true patriots of Slonim, Rzecz Pospolita, Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Belarus, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, fans and descendants of Michal Kazimir and Michal Kleofas Oginsky, citizens of the European Union and all sympathizers their glorious endeavors in the past, in preserving, restoring and beautifying the historical and cultural heritage they created, and using it for the benefit of the guests of the city and the Belarus people, who did a lot for saving nations from the brown plague of fascism in Europe.
We will be grateful to everyone who shares with us the pain of the loss of this priceless historical and cultural heritage of our compatriot Michal Kazimir Oginsky and will respond to our calls from anywhere in the world.
