An Internship is an opportunity for on-the-job training or career exploration. Students exchange their labor to gain experience. Internships can also be utilized to determine if one has an interest in a particular career as well as to develop a network of contacts.

Fred Hutch Summer HS Internship Program
Application due:The Summer High School Internship Program (SHIP) is a competitive, eight-week, full-time paid internship for rising 12th graders. The program is specifically designed for students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical science. Selected interns attend an orientation day, then begin the internship with one week of hands-on training on laboratory safety techniques and skills in the Fred Hutch Training Labs. For the remaining seven weeks, interns are paired and immersed in mentored activities in a Fred Hutch research group in Seattle. Interns also participate in research education seminars, attend professional development workshops focused on college and careers and enjoy social activities with their teams and peers. The program culminates with intern presentations to the Fred Hutch community.

Seattle Children's Research Institute Internship
Application due:During the summer, our Science Education Department offers HS students from groups that are underrepresented in biomedical research the opportunity to apply for a competitive internship position at Seattle Children’s Research Institute.
Selected interns engage in cutting-edge research, work with leading research scientists, learn essential laboratory skills and take part in workshops on ethics, laboratory safety, college readiness and career exploration.
Eligibility Requirements:
Strong interest in biomedical research and in pursuing a career in science.
Is a current 11th grade high school student.
Meet 2 of the following:
Belong to a racial or ethnic group that is underrepresented in biomedical research,
qualify for federal disadvantaged assistance, free or reduced lunch and/or other state or federal assistance, or
identify with a social, cultural or rural/inner-city educational environment that could inhibit you from pursuing a career in biomedical research

Seattle City Light HS Internships
Application opens early AprilDuring your 8-week paid internship, you will work on a variety of administrative duties, assist with key projects, receive guidance from mentors, participate in special trainings and maybe even go into the field with your colleagues. Additionally, interns come together for a variety of programming:
Chats with executive leaders
Professional development workshops with your fellow high school and college interns
Adventures to City Light facilities
Exploration of equity and social justice in the workplace
Eligibility: To be eligible for our high school internships, you must meet the following criteria:
Enrolled as a high school student before and after the internship (i.e., continuing student)
Possess a minimum 2.00 GPA
Be at least 16 years of age by the start of the internship
Have U.S. citizenship or a U.S. legal work permit

Clean Water Ambassadors Internship Program
2022 Deadlines TBDKing County Wastewater Treatment Division partners with Mountains to Sound Greenway trust to offer a paid internship program for teens 15-18 years old. For six weeks in the summer, interns learn about human and natural water systems while honing professional communication and leadership skills. During the school year, interns will work another 40+ hours on projects that make an impact in their communities.
Learn about environmental and social justice issues by participating in field trips and workshops
Improve communication skills through interviewing professionals, educating community, public speaking and professional writing
Develop and implement project proposals designed for your school and community

Microsoft Summer Internship Program
Application due:Microsoft offers a competitive internship program for juniors and seniors living in the Puget Sound area. A paid internship, students commit to full-time (40 hrs/week, although some will work less) for the duration of their summer. In return, they get an insider’s look at the development of some of the most widely used software in the world. Due to the technical nature of the internship, Microsoft seeks high school interns who have a basic knowledge of HTML and Visual Basic (although this is not necessarily a requirement for the internship). The application itself is relatively straightforward, but be prepared to convince Microsoft that you are passionate about technology beyond your schoolwork, and have a teacher or club leader write a recommendation for you.

Teens in Public Service Summer Internships (TIPS)
Application due:TIPS interns help nonprofits carry out organizational initiatives by providing invaluable support to their summer programs. In turn, interns learn how to work in the nonprofit community while also building leadership skills to meet the needs of their organization. This is a win-win-win program for interns, nonprofits, and the communities they serve.
During the program, interns spend 6-8 weeks working with their nonprofits in a variety of areas. They develop skills and have the chance to work on a wide array of projects with some of the most driven and inspiring organizations in the city.
Students age 15-19 can now apply to serve as a paid summer interns in the 2020 TIPS Summer Internship Program.

COPE Junior Health Scholar Program
Application deadline TBDThe Junior Health Scholar program allows high school students between the ages of 16-18 to shadow a current Health Scholar. Alongside their college student mentor, Junior Health Scholars observe how care delivery and administrative teams work together to deliver excellent care and explore whether a career in health care is right for them. The program is offered year-round at select sites in California, Washington and Hawaii. Most individuals complete the program in nine (9) months with a commitment of one 4-hour shift per week. For those looking to complete the program faster, we offer a 3-month option where you will receive priority shift selection.

ISB High School Internship Program
Program info opens annually in JanuaryOne of the key objectives of ISB involves transferring knowledge gained through research to the community for the benefit of society. A second objective is to inspire, prepare and diversify the next generation of systems biology researchers. The Systems Education Experiences (SEE) program within the Baliga Lab meets and surpasses these objectives through a variety of internship and ambassador programs. Each January, these opportunities are posted on the ISB careers website, enabling students to participate in cutting-edge research and education-related projects.
Seattle Public Schools - Launch206
Application due:Experience an interactive, collaborative internship opportunity. Create global business solutions, network with professionals, earn $1,000 cash and get CTE credit.
Launch206 runs June 20-July 15, 1 0 : 00 AM - 3 : 00 PM, M- F. Students must have taken or be currently enrolled in a CTE class (25 hours classroom + 65 hours working = 90 hours, 0.5 CTE credit) + $1,000 cash!
