The Figure Skating Club of Watertown proudly offers the Learn to Skate USA program—the only ice skating curriculum endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey, and US Speedskating. This nationally recognized program has taught over 2 million people to skate and provides the foundation for competitive athletes and recreational skaters alike. The standardized curriculum offers particular benefits for military families stationed at nearby Fort Drum, ensuring seamless skill progression and consistent instruction quality regardless of future relocations to other Learn to Skate USA programs nationwide.
Learn to Skate USA is built on proven methodology that emphasizes the ABCs of basic athleticism: Agility, Balance, Coordination, and Speed. Our structured, progressive curriculum ensures consistent, high-quality instruction that allows skaters to advance at their own pace while mastering essential skills safely and confidently.
Snowplow Sam (Ages 3+)
Perfect for our youngest skaters, building preliminary coordination and strength through four progressive levels designed to make learning fun and engaging for preschool-aged children. Includes a 10, 20-minute classes per session on Wednesdays and other events.
Learn to Skate Basic and Pre-free skate (Ages 6+)
The basic Skills 1-6 and Pre-free skate program introduces forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and turns while emphasizing balance, coordination, and speed development. Each level builds systematically on previous skills. Includes 10 20-minute group lessons and 40 minutes of free skate on Wednesdays, as well as other events.
Plus Program (Ages 6+)
Includes everything in the Basic program plus additional dedicated ice for skaters interested in additional time to practice skill development or begin private lessons to begin competing.
Located at the Watertown Municipal Arena (600 William T. Field Dr. Watertown, NY), our Learn to Skate USA program provides the perfect foundation for a lifelong love of skating, whether your goals are recreational enjoyment, fitness, or competitive achievement.
